The Different Levels of Chemical Protective Clothing

The Different Levels of Chemical Protective Clothing
There are different levels of chemical protective clothing ranging from A to D, A being the highest level of protection and D being the least. Resting permeation, degradation and penetration are the most important aspects of protective clothing. All these levels of clothing are discussed in detail in 8 hour Hazwoper courses.

The different types of clothing include hard hats, boots, protective suit, respirator etc. The number and types of protective gear depends majorly upon the level of risk faced by the workers.

The last level, that is, Level D includes protective footwear, gloves and coveralls. The level above that, Level C consists of inner and outer gloves, mask along with a respirator, hard hat, face shield, cloth coveralls, two way radio, escape mask and a two way radio. The same requirements are for Level B, except that the respirator has to have a self contained breathing apparatus and must have positive pressure. Again, Level A demands the same requirements as Level B except that the suit has to be completely encapsulating.

In situations where the protection of eye, skin and respiratory system has to be at its maximum, Level A protective clothing is opted. Level B protection is chosen when less of skin and eye protection and maximum respiratory protection is required. The 3rd level, Level C is used when only the respiratory system has to be monitored. Level D, the last level, is used only when a work uniform is required.
